Hi, I am hoping you can help me. I have a bungalow that has a LR that opens into a DR and off the LR are french doors and an office. From the DR there is a doorway to the kitchen (pretty small) and big family room space that is currently BM rosemary spring and miller paint fire accent walls. The DR is BM semolina and the LR needs to be painted. In the office I was thinking of an orange like Pratt and Lambert orange spice. Is it too much to bring the semolina into the LR and office and then up the stairs (which are really dark)? Also, any ideas for the kitchen and family room space? What about using the orange spice, or some orangey color in that area, then what color do I use with it that works with the semolina? Also, there is a guest bedroom off the DR, a very dark west side of house room, any suggestions for that space? It is amulet (aura color) but it does not flow with the semolina at all.
Any help is great, thanks!!!

Hi Colleen!

Thanks for your question. I see 2 things going on here. One is that you thought Eastlake Gold was beautiful at one point. Secondly, you don't like orange-ish tones. When the new floors were installed, a phenomenon called shifting happened. Eastlake Gold has an orange undertone to it, and your new flooring made the wall color shift orange. So, you're not color challenged--you just changed the conditions in the room. Color can shift when any major element in a room is changed.

My suggestion to you would be to choose a gold that has more or a brown or gray cool undertone to it. This will counter the orange factor. Golden Gate is more golden, as the name suggests, with a bit more brown than orange. Gold Coast would be another option. I would even look at Lanyard, which is little deeper and a bit more sophisticated than gold.

Let me know your thoughts. You can also send photos to me at maryfrances@mycolordesigner.com so I can take a look.

I just finished remodeling my kitchen and apparantly I am color challenged! I have cranberry maple cabinets, new venetian gold granite, sierra oak floors and stainless steel appliances. My living room opens into my dining room and kitchen kind of like one big square seperated by a wall. When you enter from the front door you can see into the dining room but not the kitchen. The far living room wall extends the full lenght of the dining room and the meets the wall that extends into the kitchen. Can you suggest some colors that would go with my kitchen and match with SW Row House Tan (that is on the wall that extends from the living room, it is the main neutral running through my hall ways living room and partial dining room. I want some color in my kitchen, tried a East Lake Gold by SW and it was beautiful until the floors got re-laid and then everything took on the red tone and looked orange kind of like pumkin or squash, hated it. Any assistance would be greatly appriciated.

HI
I am trying to decide on a colour for my bedroom. Right now the bedroom is white. The comforter set that I have for the bedroom is Chocolate brown with a gold print. I was hoping you could give me some idea for a colour for my bedroom. I am totally clueless.

Thanks so much

Hello Melissa!
Thank you! I'm also one that loves changing some colors with the seasons. I'd love to suggest a few neutrals to try as a backdrop to those seasonal palettes. Try Hush Af-95, or Cotswald AF-150 (both from the Affinity Colors from Benjamin Moore's Aura Paints. You might also test Pale Almond OC-2 or Manchester Tan HC-81 (both from Benjamin Moore's Color Preview.) Those are all neutral colors with slightly different undertones to account for taste and the light in your own home. Of course, you'll want to test the colors to see what works in your home, (my mantra here at MPC is "test those paint colors!" Hope that helps!

I am looking for a pink for my daughters' room. We are using the Pottery Barn Barbie Duvet. My little girl is so so so excited! I have tried 5 pinks and can't find the right one. I have tried cotton candy, I have cut in half and now have it at 25%, I have tried pink Cadillac and cut that in half and Pratt and Lambert's Pink Puff. I am looking for a very light pink and a little darker for an accent color. What would you recommend? Thank you!

I have a 1930's Colonial painted brick house. We are looking for a gray-ish color to paint the exterior. We will have black shutters, a black front door and white trim. Any thoughts. I'm considering Iced Cube Silver.

Thanks!
